Dr Mathew Yau

Graduated: Cumberland College of Health Sciences, Australia. Further studies included Florida Postgraduate Sex therapy Training Institute, and a PhD from the University of Sydney.  

Previously: occupational therapist in the Hong Kong Medical and Health Department, Seaview Hospital New Zealand, Liverpool Hospital Australia, and several university appointments at Cumberland College of Health Sciences, and the University of Sydney.  

Currently: Assistant Professor, Department of Rehabilitation Services, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong. 

Particular Interests include:

bulletcultural competence in health care practice,
bulletsexuality and disability
bullettourism and disability
bulletservice delivery in mental health services

Author of many national and international conference presentations as well as:

bullet13 peer refereed journal articles
bulletbook chapter
bullet3 student textbooks/workbooks on issues relating to psychosocial dysfunction

Research Interests:

bulletrehabilitation of people with mental handicap
bulletpsychiatric rehabilitation,
bulletcommunity mental health,
bulletculture and mental illness,
bulletsexuality and disability.

bulletCurrently has professional accreditation as an occupational therapist in Hong Kong, Australia, United State of America, and New Zealand. Certified Sex Therapist, Florida USA.

bulletInvited lecture, “The psychosocial aspects of disability”, World Health Organisation, Anhui, China
bulletAssistant editor, Hong Kong Journal of Occupational Therapy
bulletAppointed to Mental Health Review Tribunal by the NSW Governor
bulletChaired the Supportive Employment committee of the Richmond Fellowship, Hong Kong.
