Vicki has worked in the field of
mental health consumer advocacy for over eleven years. She has worked on a
national, state and local level representing consumer issues and ensuring
significant changes to policy and mental health reform
Her area of expertise covers a wide
variety of areas. Vicki has advocated for consumers in the community mental
health sector and also acute services. She has also worked in the
non-government sector both as an educator and a staff member of the Mental
Health Coordinating Council the peak body for non government organizations
in NSW.
Vicki has been a pioneer in the area
of consumer advocacy training. She was the first consumer training
coordinator to be employed at the NSW Institute of Psychiatry and
facilitated consumer advocacy courses from 1995 – 2001 that ensured the
significant expansion of the consumer movement in NSW.
Currently working at the
Transcultural Mental Health Centre, Vicki is now involved in mentoring,
training and further empowering advocates for consumer s of cultural and
linguistically diverse backgrounds
Alongside her passionate involvement
in consumer advocacy, Vicki is now focussing most of her energies on
empowering consumers to take charge of their own healing process and
initiating changes in the mental health sector of Australia to a recovery
oriented service.
